What’s it all about

You are all invited - our community of amazing hobby, amateur and local professional artists, young and old alike to share your creativity with us all.


Whether it be a painting, drawing, photography, digital art or even mixed media it is to reflect the Pohutukawa Coast and the Franklin Region - it may be the flora and fauna or of something or someone in our community are some examples.


The winner’s artwork will then be turned into high-quality, limited-edition jigsaw puzzles. The jigsaw puzzles will then be used in a local speed puzzling competition which the community will then be invited to join in with, and celebrate the winning art by building a jigsaw puzzle, with all entries on display!

The Art Competition

Please read carefully: We may revise these terms and conditions from time to time by updating this page. The revised ‘Conditions of Entry’ will take effect once they are published here.


There will be two winners. The prize for each winner is to have your art piece turned into a limited edition 500 piece puzzle of which you will win a copy of plus a prize pack, with details to be announced via Facebook and this webpage – final decision at the discretion of the judges. There will also be a peoples choice award based on community votes.


Entry is open to all ages and persons. We encourage amateur artists to the professionals, children to adults all to enter. Just keep in mind the artwork is to reflect the Pohutukawa Coast and/or the community.


Immediate family members and colleagues of the judges are not eligible to enter.


All art must be accompanied by the official entry form. Please supply a separate form for each entry.


Submitting your entry gives the competition your permission to supply your name and contact details to the media to promote the exhibition.


Entries must not be derogatory towards Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Committee, Franklin City Council, the award sponsors, or any associated parties/partners of these organisations - if deemed as such it will be disqualified.


All works are to be original. All submitters/entrants are to be the owner of the work(s).


All entered works must not have been previously exhibited or displayed. The entry must be created for, and first viewed at, the 2024 Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition.


All submissions/artworks must be of a size and weight that enables them to fit the purpose of this competition. DIMENSIONS MUST BE OF A STANDARD SIZING eg A4, A3, A2, A1 with a 20kg weight limit. Digital Art must be provided in a high resolution printed format for display purposes.


Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Committee reserves the right to select all/any works to be exhibited, for puzzle reproduction, social media, promotion, and post event publication, advertising and marketing purposes of any form. There will be no entitlement to royalty or other payment for reproduction.


The winners will be announced on Saturday 27 April 2024 at the exhibition award ceremony prior to each puzzle competition.


All work must be delivered or couriered to

Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, 50 Beachlands Road, Beachlands, Auckland 2018 with the following information included:

  • Unpacking instructions if needed
  • Pre-paid courier tickets for the return at end of the exhibition (if applicable)
  • Typed name and contact address and phone number
  • Entry Form


All works will stay with Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Committee for the duration of the competition.


Entries close 5pm, 1 April 2024. ALL works are to arrive at 50 Beachlands Road, Beachlands, Auckland 2018 5pm 1 APRIL 2024. Please call Adele on 027 253 1083 to arrange in person drop offs.


Return and collection of works from Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Committee is between Saturday 27 April 2024 after 5.30pm until 6.30pm at the exhibition Or to be collected at a later date from 50 Beachlands Road, Beachlands, Auckland 2018 by arrangement with Adele on 027 253 1083.


Return of artwork:

Return and collection of works from Pohutukawa Coast Art and Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Committee is between Sunday 28 April 2024 after 5.30pm until 7 pm at the exhibition or Sunday 14 April from the Beachlands School Hall 9am -11am. Or to be collected at a later date from 50 Beachlands Road, Beachlands, Auckland 2018.


Works requiring couriers to return will be done so if a pre-paid courier has been supplied. Please contact Adele if you have any queries phone 027 253 1083.


Any works not collected by 12 May 2024 will be disposed of.

What’s it all about

You are all invited to speed puzzle with us!


There is to be an individuals and a team event.


Individuals to complete a limited edition 500 piece jigsaw puzzle

(for ages 12 and over)


Teams of up to 4 people (of any ages) to complete 500 Piece limited edition puzzle


The puzzles to be completed will be the winning designs from the art competition reflecting our beautiful Pohutukawa Coast.


The FASTEST INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM will win a prize, plus there will be spot prizes on the day too for best dressed!



The Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Rules

  • Arrive early so we can get started on time.
  • Hands off means ‘HANDS OFF’.
  • You can not break/open the puzzle seal around the box until instructed to do so.
  • You can not interfere with other contestants or their puzzle.
  • If you are sharing a table, please be considerate of other team’s space and puzzle.
  • Your puzzle lid/box may be placed in the middle of the table between you and your competitor on the same table.
  • You are not required to stay seated in your chair to puzzle.
  • You may move around your table as long as you don’t impede on the space of the competitor(s) sharing your table or at surrounding tables.
  • You can leave your plastic packaging on the floor and the volunteers will collect it.
  • You can eat, drink or go to the toilet but the clock will not stop for you.
  • You can bring accessories and tools. ie: spatula, magnifying glass, sorting trays and headphones, table light.
  • You can not bring headlight torches or adjustable puzzle board/ tilting puzzle boards.
  • Loudly let us know when you’ve finished your puzzle!
  • Please leave the competition area within 5 minutes of completing your puzzle.
  • Please respect the competitors still puzzling when you have finished by keeping quiet and moving away from their table.
  • 5 minute penalty applies for every 2 pieces that are found to be in the incorrect place after your time is recorded.
  • In the case of lost pieces, 10 seconds will be added to your final time for each lost piece.
  • You may ask/receive assistance to complete your puzzle but you will not have your time recorded and will not receive a ranking.
  • If you would like help to complete your puzzle let an officiator know and we will find someone to help you.
  • If you finish early and are happy to help others, please let an officiator know after you have finished your puzzle.
  • Any unfinished puzzles by the end of the 3hrs will have the remaining pieces counted to determine your placing/ranking.
  • We will count any pieces that are not in a joined group of 3 or more.
